Foamed Concrete

The material known as foamed concrete is one that is low in weight, self-leveling, and self-compacting. The typical components of foam concrete are cement, water, and a foaming agent. Its low weight makes it an ideal construction material.

Additives and fillers such as sand, limestone dust, PFA, and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) are examples of materials that may be used in the foam concrete mix for a variety of reasons, including cost and technical considerations.

The production of foamed concrete involves the generation of dense foam and its subsequent injection into cement paste or cement sand slurry via the use of mechanical procedures. The typical density of foam concrete may vary from as little as 500 kg/m3 to as much as 1600 kg/m3.

No Compaction Required

The simplicity with which foam concrete may be applied is undeniably one of the material’s most notable strengths. The use of compaction or vibration is not necessary while working with foam concrete, and the material requires very little finishing.

When working with restricted or inaccessible spaces, as is often the case in excavations, or when dealing with poor soils that are difficult to compress, mechanical compaction may be challenging and even dangerous in some circumstances.

On top of the loose dirt, a foundation made of foam concrete is completely compacted. Traditional techniques might cause damage or movement to the surrounding structure if they are used to compress conventional backfill against deep foundations or retaining structures.

Additionally, traditional methods take too much time. In situations like these, foam concrete is an excellent option for a solution.

High Fluidity

Foamed concrete may be pumped with ease and at pressures that are relatively low across long distances using hoses.

In applications of foam concrete that are longer than 500 meters, such as pipe and tunnel backfill, the slurry is pumped via pipes, and the pre-formed foam is injected at the spot where it is to be placed.

Concrete that has been infused with foam spontaneously self-levels itself and fills even the tiniest gaps, holes, and seams. When it is being placed in excavations, foam molds itself to every feature of the subgrade.

Ease of Removal

It is possible to construct foam concrete to have precise strengths, which enables it to be removed at a later time for excavations or the maintenance of utilities. On-site production of foam concrete ensures that the material meets all specifications, and is simple to remove using conventional construction tools.
